Preventative Care

Preventative care is arguably the most important aspect of your dental health. Quality preventative care means you will not need to worry about problems in the future. It doesn’t matter how old you are, preventative care is important at any stage of your life.

A top-notch preventative dental treatment plan includes at-home oral care, routine checkups, and speedy assessment of any issues that do arise.

One of the most important aspects of preventative care is keeping plaque buildup and cavities at bay. How do you do this?

  • Brush your teeth two times a day or more with a soft-bristled brush. Toothpaste with fluoride keeps your teeth strong. When brushing, work along your gum line and include your tongue.
  • Floss at least once per day and finish with mouthwash to kill bacteria. This also helps to keep your breath fresh. Flossing and mouthwash remove food particles, bacteria, and plaque from your mouth that brushing alone misses.
  • Nutrition is an important part of oral health. Avoid sugary treats and eat tooth-healthy foods like raw veggies, dairy, and fruit.
  • Schedule dental checkups every six months for professional cleaning assistance. During your visit, ask your dentist about dental sealants that prevent damage from early decay.
  • For those who enjoy sports and other activities that put your teeth at risk, ask about a protective mouth guard.

Has it been six months or longer since your last checkup? Now is the time to schedule a cleaning and exam. Give us a call today to schedule your next dental cleaning. And in the meantime, check out these instructions on brushing and flossing to see if you can improve your at-home oral health care!
