Oral cancer can be fatal if it is not diagnosed and treated early. Detecting oral cancer is the first step in a successful treatment plan.

Early Detection Can Save Your Life

Randol Mil Family Dentistry has the skills and tools that make early detection of oral cancer possible. We are even able to spot problems that might be pre-cancerous or a less serious problem.

What are the symptoms of oral cancer?

  • Red or white spots anywhere in the oral cavity
  • Sores that bleed easily or do not heal
  • Bumps or lumps
  • Thick or rough tissue
  • Pain, tenderness, or numbness anywhere in the mouth or on the lips
  • Difficulty chewing, swallowing, or speaking
  • Difficulty moving the jaw or tongue

Oral cancer screenings are quick, simple, and painless. They include a visual examination of your oral cavity, as well as a manual evaluation to detect any abnormalities. If anything is of concern, we will collect cells from the area and send them in for analysis. Depending on the test results we might recommend a biopsy.

Is Oral Cancer Preventable?

There are several things you can do to reduce your risk for developing oral cancer. These things include:

  • Avoid tobacco products
  • Only drink alcohol in moderation
  • Eat a healthy, balanced diet
  • Limit your exposure to the sun and wear UV-A/B-blocking sun protective lotions on your skin AND lips.
  • Schedule an appointment for an oral cancer exam if you discover something unusual
